Grey’s Anatomy Season 5 Finale
On thursday, Grey’s Anatomy’s season 5 finale aired in the USA. Not knowing it was a double episode, I only downloaded episode 23 yesterday (The Netherlands isn’t very fast with airing new episodes…). Let me tell you how things went and how I perceived the episodes.
Notice the emphasis on spoilers…I’ll get back to that. If you want to read further, be warned. Select the text to read it. Note, this is not a synopsis or recap, just what I thought of the episodes.
MAJOR SPOILER WARNING

Besides the strong moments between Izzy and Alex with her struggle whether take the surgery or to go for the chemotherapy there were some other surprising moments. The battle between Arizona and the Chief for Bailey was fun to see and Arizona was right, she has the joy that wins in the end. Sloan gets turned down by Lexy while Hunt tells Yang he wants to go back to Iraq. In turn, Yang says she doesn’t want Hunt to die and the scenes that were brilliantly shown follow up to the most surprising moment of episode 23: instead of Hunt, George ends up signing for the army while Hunt went to his mother to tell her he’s back from Iraq. Izzy says she wants to take the surgery and signs the DNR because she doesn’t want to live as a veggie.
As said earlier, I didn’t know they had planned a double episode for their season finale. So after seeing 23 yesterday, I went to the message boards at IMDB’s Grey’s Anatomy section to see what people were thinking of the episode. Instead, I see all these weird things about George that never happened in the episode I watched. It was then I found out there was another episode and I accidently read the major spoiler of episode 24…
George decides to tell Bailey that he’s joining the army as a trauma surgeon and Bailey clearly is upset about it. She makes plans with the rest of the team to put a stop to George’s actions. An unknown man comes in with severe wounds because he saved a woman by pushing her away from a bus that was crushing into her, getting himself nearly killed in the proces. John Doe tries to write something for Meredith but is too weak to do it. Izzy’s memory recovers only to crash in Alex’ arms shortly thereafter; while John Doe finally manages to write “007″ on Meredith’s hand. Shocked, Meredith finds out John Doe is actually George! This scene made this episode my favorite and best episode of Grey’s Anatomy. It sucked that I already knew who John Doe was…I think I would’ve reacted even stronger if I didn’t knew. I was glad that I was still surprised to see Izzy encounter George in the elevator. Beautiful scene too by the way. Do you get why I put the heavy emphasis on the spoilers now?
Nevertheless, episode 24 of season 5 is the BEST episode I’ve ever seen of Grey’s Anatomy and I honestly can’t wait to see what happens in season 6.
